Welcome
I
listen to CDs played on a 1999 Technics
SL-PD8 changer that
is connected to a
Schiit MODI+ DAC
via toslink cable. The heart and soul of my Mid-Fi system is
the Marantz model
2238B stereo receiver that my father bought new in 1977. The ADS bookshelf speakers are models
L980
with
L570/2
stacked on top, these loudspeakers were made in 1983.
I call myself The Occasional Audiophile because I
occasionally perfectly triangulate
myself in front of my speakers and listen to the music intently, but I mostly
listen to my music in the background while I am multitasking... this is my
mostly vintage Mid-Fi system. *one CD changer, DAC and the turntable pictured
have been removed and set aside.
Top line
ADS speakers, such as
these L980s used tighter tolerance drivers
than the lower models... they offered high power handling and good protective
circuitry plus a very flat response. ADS refined the mids and tweeters in the top
line series for a smoother sound, those
found in the 980 and 1590 offered exceptional smoothness in the
tweeters and a lower resonant frequency for the mids, which were crossed over
lower, thus relieving the woofers of some midrange duty. Top line ADS speakers
also used cabinets that were constructed a little better than the excellent
cabinets used on lower models.
The next upgrade I have planned for my system is an
exterior FM radio antenna.

Gear I no longer need or have space for.
